Physical Development Plan 2017
In 2016 the TCPDO began the process to amend the PDP (2003). The Chief Town Planner and his staff have been working with
a multi-disciplinary consulting team lead by Urban Strategies Inc in partnership with Eco-Isle Consulting and comprised
of many local and international subject matter experts.
Building on the Government's commitments and international collaboration on the New Urban Agenda, COP 21 Paris Agreement,
UNESCO World Heritage inscription and Sustainable Cities Initiative, the PDP amendment is an opportunity to introduce
and implement transformational and foundational change in the way we plan for land use, development and infrastructure
across the island.
In a context of steady state growth, unsustainable development patterns, climate change and food, water and land scarcity,
the PDP amendment introduces new strategies which focus on restoration, reinvestment and more compact development footprint.
The PDP amendment creates a contemporary policy framework to guide land use, development and infrastructure decisions in
a manner that promotes sustainability and resiliency across the island.
